THE CAPTAINS

Captain Alan Olson will be leading this year's voyages from February 12 - March 7, 2011.  Alan has been involved with Call of the Sea for over 20 years and has led many voyages to Baja California, in addition to expeditions in the Atlantic Ocean, throughout the Pacific, and as far away as China. This will be his 11th journey to Mexico. Alan holds a US Coast Guard 100-ton Master's License. Our First Mates are USGC  licensed as well. 

Captain Rick Whiting will be the Seaward's Captain from December 26, 2010 to February 10, 2011, and from February 28 - April 1, 2011. Rick grew up in the U.K. where he began sailing at the age of seven.  He began building and racing small dinghies when a teenager and quickly moved to keel boats and long distance racing. His racing experience includes an Atlantic crossing, Bermuda, the Pacific, the North Sea and English Channel, and many trips to the western coast of Mexico and Central America.  His cruising and delivery experience includes the Caribbean, South America, and the Pacific Northwest.  Rick currently holds a 100 ton USCG license with a sailing endorsement.  He has eight years of experience as a yacht broker.  He is experienced in restoration of wooden boats and currently works as a marine surveyor affiliated with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS).  His education in liberal arts includes a masters degree in cinema.  Rick has been Captain of Seaward both in San Francisco Bay and on longer coastal voyages.

THE CREW

Our crew is comprised of professional sailors and experienced educators who have joined our organization because of their love and knowledge of the sea and their ability to share their experiences. Each expedition will have a Captain, First Mate, Deckhand, and an additional Deckhand who will also be the on-board Cook.
