News of Schooner SEAWARD
During her season on San Francisco Bay, Seaward is underway six or seven days each week. She needs to be safe, reliably ready to sail, equipped to serve her educational mission, and able to meet the rigorous standards and inspections of the U.S. Coast Guard. And it doesn’t hurt to see her looking her best as well!
Fortunately, Call of the Sea started with a strong, sound vessel. Seaward’s hard-working crew performs scheduled maintenance to keep her in top condition. Additionally, there always are improvement projects. Last year’s new mainsail still looks new. The past year has seen:
• a complete replacement of Seaward’s standing rigging,
• new, stronger safety netting,
• a better learning area belowdecks, with new bookshelves and saloon table.
The Board of Directors’ Vessel Committee develops long-range plans with an emphasis on safety. We’re confident that Seaward will continue to be a great platform for sea-going education for years to come.
