News from Call of the Sea and the Schooner Seaward
From Ken Neal, Executive Director:
‘Tis time to return to the Bay! As the winter storms start to clear away and spring comes upon us, Call of the Sea’s season for taking kids out to their Bay begins in earnest soon. Seaward is on her Homeward Bound voyage from the Sea of Cortez and is expected back to Sausalito in mid-March. And hopefully your thoughts are returning to the waterfront as well, and to getting out to sea under sail.
What we do best is connect people of all backgrounds to the sea and San Francisco Bay by simply taking them there; the sea and the schooner do the rest. Aboard Seaward folks don’t just ride, they make the boat move – by setting sail, steering, and navigating. This season will see us growing that work, reaching more kids. We’re also starting new programs, such as our three-day Voyage Camp. Most of the people who cross Seaward’s decks are youth eager to learn about seafaring, the ecology of the sea, and how they can propel a sailing vessel through the water. But many are also adults, often just as eager to learn in their own ways.
This newsletter will bring you up-to-date on Seaward’s news and on ways to get to sea yourself. Our supporters have made it possible for us to bring those experiences to many kids this upcoming season. I hope you can join us on June 12 to celebrate that mission!
