Friends and Supporters of Call of the Sea,
The educational sails for 2011 have ended this week and the Holiday Sail Schedule has been posted on Eventbrite. It has been a most productive year! Sailing on our schooner Seaward this year, Call of the Sea will have connected over 5,000 passengers to the joys of the sea and sailing. In addition, we have completed new and expanded educational programs for our Bay Exploration sails and Voyage Seaward overnight adventures. After staying in the San Francisco Bay area this winter offering Public Sails on the weekends, we will head back south to Mexico for the 2013 winter season in January, February, and March. You can view the rough itinerary on our Sail Mexico page. Stay tuned for the detailed itinerary and prices, which will be announced on our site in December.
I am excited to announce that Call of the Sea (COTS) and The Educational Tall Ship (ETS) www.educationaltallship.org have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to clarify how both nonprofit organizations will work together in the areas of educational programs and fundraising. In the future, if both parties agree, COTS would be able to more than double its sailing platform for the on-the-water education programs with the construction of a new vessel to be built by ETS that will be operated and staffed by COTS.
Call of the Sea does need your help in supporting our Fall Scholarship Drive that is now in progress. However, donations are running significantly behind what we need in scholarships for the underserved youth of the Bay Area. School budget cutbacks and the economy are affecting our mission capability like never before. Please consider contributing to the scholarship fund this year so that we can kick off our new marine-based education programs on Seaward in 2012.
