THE 3-DAY TRIP will give younger sailors (age 12-15) the opportunity to learn the basics of sailing and seamanship, conduct hands-on marine research, and connect with each other and the bay in a meaningful and lasting way. This all happens while sailing to and from the Mothball Fleet of Suisun Bay under the watchful eye of our trained and experienced crew. The cost is $425* per student.
THE 5-DAY TRIP gives older sailors (ages 14-18) all of the opportunities of the 3-day program, and includes a trip out of the Golden Gate to the historic Drake's Bay and returns via the wild and pristine Farallon Islands. The cost is $700* per student.
During ALL TRIPS, under the guidance of a professional captain and crew, students are challenged to become a team through learning to sail a classic sailing vessel. Given increased responsibility as the days pass, their skills grow. They develop confidence, as well as teamwork and leadership abilities. Dependent on weather, wind and tide instead of social pressures and electronic entertainment, they gain an appreciation and respect for the ocean environment. By fully participating in all aspects of shipboard life (steering, navigating, standing watch, and helping in the galley) students become one with the rhythm of a ship at sea, often returning to shore forever changed.
*Need-based scholarships are available. Please call for details.
"Voyage Seaward" is a program of Call of the Sea, an educational non-profit whose mission is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with the sea through educational programs aboard a sailing vessel that focus on our nautical heritage, the ocean environment, seamanship, teamwork, and leadership.
