Bay Explorations 3-Hour Day Sails
Step Aboard . . .
. . . for a three-hour educational voyage that gives students a rich, hands-on experience on San Francisco Bay. Aboard the schooner Seaward, students become both sailors and scientists for a day! Bay Explorations combines a structured curriculum of rotating learning stations with the active and cooperative experience of getting the vessel underway, raising the sails, setting the course, and steering the ship.
Lessons are taught in a hands-on, inquiry-based style designed to engage students with the ship and the bay. The curriculum aligns with 4th and 5th grade California State Standards in social studies and science, but is readily adaptable to suit different age levels. Choose between two voyage programs, or design a customized shipboard program to fit the needs of your group.
Choosing Your Program
We offer two voyages, SAILOR FOR A DAY and OCEANOGRAPHER FOR A DAY. On all voyages, students will set sail and participate in three rotating learning stations. This will always include our signature "Seamanship" station to ensure that students get the most out of their time aboard. Click each activity to learn more and to see the state standards with which it aligns!

"My students were excited and inspired. Bay Explorations gave a context for many things we have talked about in class. This was a life experience they will never forget."
